History of the Jacobs brand
The beginnings
In 1895, the 26-year-old son of a farmer, Johann Jacobs, opened a delicatessen in Bremen, Germany, selling, among other things, coffee, tea and chocolate. Needless to say, he was successful. A few years later, Johann Jacobs was an industrial entrepreneur and the first coffee retailer to roast his own coffee beans in his premises. This was the only way he could guarantee his customers a constant quality of coffee that was ready for immediate use.
From Bremen to the world
In 1906, Johann Jacobs opened a roastery and in 1913 registered the Jacobs brand for the first time. In the 1920s, he began offering his coffee by mail order. Jacobs coffee became so popular that by the 1960s, Johann's son Walther was already running a coffee delivery business with 1,000 trucks, regularly delivering freshly roasted coffee to 60,000 retailers throughout Germany. The Jacobs brand began to spread around the world from the 1970s, and after several mergers in the 1980s and 1990s, it became part of the Kraft group.
In 1966, the company began selling a number of different Jacobs coffees, including its flagship Jacobs Krönung coffee. The term Krönung literally means coronation and this association with the image of royal exclusivity and luxury underlines the importance of this coffee as Jacobs coffee of the highest quality.
You can enjoy Jacobs coffee in bean, ground and instant coffee. From 2018, also in aluminum espresso capsules .
